Synod Treasurer Mike Boden launches – The Philanthropist
Our Treasurer, who created this original work, is launching “The Philanthropist”, a multimedia theatre presentation on the life story of Jeffery Hale later this August. The presentation will also serve as the inaugural event of the new amphitheatre at Cegep Champlain- St. Lawrence in Quebec City.
2017 marks the 150th anniversary of the official opening of the Jeffery Hospital and in celebration of this historic event, Jeffery Hale’s story will finally be told. Jeffery Hale, a humanitarian and philanthropist, bequeathed 9000 pounds to found a hospital for sick Protestants and, although the institution’s mandate has changed over the years, it continues to exist and thrive today. In fact, there are five organizations in Quebec City that bear the name Jeffery Hale, yet oddly enough his story is not well known.
This story will be of particular interest to the members of the Anglican Diocese of Quebec since Jeffery Hale, an influential evangelical, battled with the 3rd Bishop of Quebec, George Jehoshaphat Mountain over different ideologies.
The not-for-profit event will be held from August 24 to 27. To find out more, including how to purchase tickets, visit the web page wejh.ca/philanthropist and “Like” the event’s Facebook page. You can also call 418 684-5333, ext. 1384.
