Constitution & Canons

The diocesan canons are the church law for this diocese. The canons for the diocese of Quebec were first made in 1859 and have been amended by various acts of Synods since then. The last major rewrite of the canons was approved by the Synod held in Quebec in November of 2015. Prior to that there as a rewrite adopted bt Synod held in  Gaspe in 1999 and there have been minor amendments made by the Synods of 2003, 2005, 2007 & 2012. The current edition is available below.

The diocesan constitution requires passage at two consecutive synods; the current version was approved at first reading at the 2012 Synod and adopted at the Synod in 2015.

Some matters of church law fall under the canons of the Ecclesiastical Province of Canada and of the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada. You can use the hyperlinks to visit those sites in order to view those canons.
