A festival of English church music in Sherbrooke, Sunday December 13

At 3:00 on the afternoon of Sunday December 13, in St Peter’s Church, Sherbrooke, l’Ensemble vocal Amadeus de l’Estrie will be giving a concert which will be of particular interest to all those raised in the tradition of the Anglican church - a festival of English church music. The programme is entitled:

Interludes Sacrées: Anthems, Motets et Noëls à faire résonner l’église

Many of the pieces are familiar parts of the Anglican liturgy; eg. Britten’s Festival Te Deum (We praise thee O God, We acknowledge Thee to be the Lord), and Jubilate Doe (O be joyful in the Lord all ye lands), from the service of Matins. Other pieces on the programme are anthems which have become standard fare in the church, such as Edgar Bainton’s setting of Revelations 21, (And I saw a new heaven and a new Earth) and Charles Parry’s rendition of Psalm 122 (I was glad when they said unto me, We will go into the house of the Lord). Also included are two Latin anthems by Sir Charles Villiers Stanford, Beati Quorum Via and Justorum Animae, as well as Randall Thompson’s, Glory to God in the Highest, and the Vaughn Williams Fantasia on Christmas Carols.
